Biography

Sarah ParrSarah Parr was born in 1966.  Daughter of Andrew and Donna.  “My Dad told me stories all the time.  He had an incredible imagination.  As for Mom, she was a voracious reader.  There was not a time growing up that there wasn’t a book on her nightstand.”  Sarah began reading at a young age while her family lived in Miami, FL.  “I was a bit of a bookworm.”  When she was ten, her parents moved Mercer Island, WA.

The northwest was an enormous change for Sarah.  To encourage her and get her outdoors, her mother signed her up for ski lessons.  “At first I was terrified.  I hate heights, still do.  But there was something of a thrill to that terror.”  That was also the time Sarah began to ride horses and developed a lifelong passion that continues today.

In 1984 her father took a position in Bermuda. Again the family moved, this time to the near tropics.  Sarah exchanged skiing for snorkeling and diving, but she still found a place to ride and write.   “Bermuda is almost too beautiful to be real.”  She graduated from Bermuda High School for Girls in 1985.

From her freshman year of college at Wake Forest University Sarah wrote for the student newspaper, THE BLACK AND GOLD.  She also participated in debate, peer counselors and helped at a local horse training center for the disabled.  “Wake Forest was an incredible experience.  I have to thank my professors, especially Professor Smiley, who were masters of their craft.”  She graduated in 1989 with a BA in History and Economics and moved to Miami.  It was there she entered the cruise industry.

In 1992 she married, finding her soulmate through excellent fortune.  Her husband, Chris, graduated from FSU with degrees in History and Economics and also worked for a cruise line.  “It was clearly meant to be.  How many people do you find working for the same company, both with the same degrees?”  They moved to Rochester, NY in 1995.

Sarah began writing as a child. At first her stories were part fantasy, part science fiction, part romance. She had a flair for poetry and a love for words. “The best part, no one ever said that my writing was too wild, too strange or couldn’t happen. My parents encouraged me.” In 2003 she founded a small writers group and in 2007 her first novel, Renegade was accepted by Kensington Publishing as part of their Zebra Line.

Each day Sarah sets to work in the morning. “Morning, coffee and writing are a habit for me, one that I protect fiercely.” She takes a break each hour until she has done a good day’s work. “There are times life gets in the way. I have two children and a small horse farm, things happen. But I prefer to have a good day’s work under my belt because evenings are family time.”

Sarah is 5’8” of Russian and Western European descent. She has two children in grade school. She is a lover of animals and lives with a collie (Erin) a sheltie (Skye), a rescue cat (Kisses) and a Tonkinese (Mushu). She rides trail and dressage on her Morgan horse, Tahoma. An enthusiastic cook, Sarah loves the Food Network and trying new cuisine.

Her stories are known for their adventurous spirit, vibrant heroines, dynamic heros and sensual tones. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America. Sarah continues to write historical romances, set in a variety of locations including England, Europe, Bermuda and the Caribbean from the 1700’s to the 1800’s. “My stories are centered around the characters. Locations are part of the fun.”
